I know these kinds of days happen to you as well

We all have them.  Mine was today.  While trying to rest some from the day’s struggles, I read this devotion by Leroy Brownlow and believed it may help you as well.  Today, just about anything you could imagine has happened.  ….and I know these kinds of days happen to you as well.

“The forty-sixth Psalm was composed at a time when Israel was in great peril.  Just what it was we are not certain, but we are certain it is one of the most beautiful and reassuring of all the Psalms.  It was the favorite of Martin Luther who often quoted it when troubles threatened.  Its contents of blessed assurance will lift our sinking spirits.”

“God is our refuge” (verse 1)

“Should storms of seven fold thunder roll,
And shake the globe from pole to pole
No flaming bolt shall daunt my face,
For my God is my hiding place.”

“Therefore will not we fear.” (verse 2)  With God as our refuge, nothing should scare us.

“God shall help.”  (verse 5)  Though troubled waters rise and mountains tumble, there is the life-sustaining river of God that flows into the heart of man.

“The Lord of hosts is with us” (verse 7).  Though the heathen rage and kingdoms fall, there is one immovable power that remains with us – the Lord.

“He maketh wars to cease” (verse 9).  God’s righteousness expels from the hearts of men the very things that produce war.

“Be still!”  This command was not just for country folk who lived in a slow time and a passive pace.  Even today it is necessary to “be still to make progress.”

~ Leroy Brownlow

“There comes a time when you have to choose between turning the page and closing the book.”

A decision that has been bearing down on me for several months was made today.  My mother-in-law, who is almost 98, was placed in Hospice.  The physicians have done all they can and the decision fell to me.  I have been caring for her for some time.  She is not a Christian, which made it all the harder……”
