Progression of Sin

How easy for our lives to get out of control if we do not watch our steps and stay faithful to God.

A story related to me not long ago had me thinking how sin can lead to a gradual decline of a person in their morality.  I do not know this man personally, but the story is not unlike others in this country.  The man’s life spiraled downward and out of control, and it started with evil companions which led to drinking with a crowd, lying, cheating, adultery and many more sins.  He is now living with another woman and his health is rapidly declining.  I was told he was dying gradually, but more importantly he is dying spiritually.  How tragic!

“Satan promises the best and pays the worst.  He is a liar from the beginning.  The foolish are deceived by him.  The promised crown becomes a halter.  The promised comfort becomes torment and the promised honor becomes shame.  The promised heaven becomes hell.”     ~ David Harris

“Sin will take you where you didn’t plan to go.  It will keep you there longer than you planned to stay.  And it will cost you more than you intended to pay.”    ~ Unknown

“Be not deceived:  evil communications corrupt good manners.”    I Corinthians 15:33

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise:  but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”    Proverbs 13:20

“But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.”      I Corinthians 5:11

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the set of the scornful.”    Psalms 1:1-4

Satan tempts us in three ways.  Lust of the flesh.  Lust of the eye.  And the pride of life.  And when we are tempted, never believe a single sin will not progress toward another and another, until we become entangled in its treacherous and deadly grip, not only physically, but spiritually as well.

“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:  and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”     James 1:14-15

Easy, so very easy to become entangled with the world.  And once entangled with the world’s enticements and the pleasures of sin, and yes, I said, the pleasures of sin, for it is what sin is, pleasure for the moment.

“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;  Choosing to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;  Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt:  for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.”
Hebrews 11: 24-26

“At this moment there are 6,470,818,611 people in the world.
Some are running scared.
Some are coming home.
Some tell lies to make it through the day.
Others are just now facing the truth.
Some are evil men, at war with good.
And some are good struggling with evil.
Six billion people in the world.
Six billion souls.
And all we need is ONE!        ~ Scott
