Evil Influences / Women in Scripture

There are a number of women in Scripture who were evil influences.  Eve, the first woman, the first wife and the first mother was an evil influence on Adam.  She was the first to disobey God.  She knew the command God gave and that which was permissible to eat in the garden, but she was tempted by that old serpent Satan and suffered the consequences of disobedience. That said, Adam had his own responsibility in obeying God, but he, just as Eve, was drawn into temptation and disobeyed God.

“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”   Genesis 3:6

“Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:  and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”    James 1:15

Herodias – According to the historian Josephus, Salome was the name of Herodias’ daughter.  Herodias had an evil influence upon her daughter as well as her husband.  She was also very manipulative.  Throughout Scripture we find those who could not stand the light of truth and took evil measures to try destroy it.  Herodias was unlawfully married to Herod, a truth she did not want to hear, and when opportunity came, she manipulated her daughter in asking for John the Baptist’s head on a platter. After Herodias’ daughter pleased the king through her dance, Herodias request was honored by Herod and John was killed.  This woman killed the “messenger” but God’s Word did not die.

“So shall My Word be that goeth forth out of My mouth:  it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”      Isaiah 55:11

Jezebel – Jezebel’s name is so repulsive no parent to this day wants to give their daughter this name.  Jezebel was as power hungry as any politician of our day and would stop at nothing to get what she wanted.  Her husband wanted to buy Naboth’s vineyard; when Naboth refused, Jezebel employed two false witnesses and an innocent man was stoned to death.

There are other women in Scripture who were evil, but let us as faithful women of God follow Him and submit to His will.  Christ placed woman on a pedestal.  They are to be protected, cared for and loved, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it.  May others see the power we have for good and get our homes, communities, states and nation back to Him.  We most certainly have the power to influence, but use the influence wisely and according to His will.

“What kind of influence do you want to have?  What kind of effect do you want to have on other people?  Never mistake the power of influence.”      ~ Rohn
