Truth: Welcome or unwelcome?

I awakened this morning thinking how many times through the centuries Truth has been relentlessly and intentionally pursued for destruction, and the powers which have tried, and failed miserably.  No matter how long God allows the world to stand, Truth shall prevail.

“And so, I thought, the Anvil of God’s Word.  For ages skeptic blows have beat upon.
Yet though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The Anvil is unharmed, the hammers are gone.”    ~ Excerpt, Attributed to John Clifford

Truth has been maligned, ignored, spat upon, beaten, mocked, ridiculed, laughed at, hammered, crucified, lied about, betrayed, denied, placed on trial before Pilate, Caiaphas, and Herod.  Persecuted in more ways than we can count. Truth was with God in the beginning, and will still be here when Jesus returns.

“I have chosen the way of Truth.”    Psalms 119:30

“Buy the Truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.”   Proverbs 23:23

“And ye shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.”   John 8:32

“Jesus saith unto him, I Am the way the Truth and the life:  no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”     John 14:6

“Sanctify them through Thy Truth:  Thy Word is Truth.”   John 17:17

“Pilate therefore said unto Him, Art Thou a King then?  Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I Am a King.  To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the Truth.  Every one that is of the Truth heareth My voice.  Pilate said unto Him, What is Truth?  And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews and saith unto them, I find in Him no fault at all.”       John 18:37-38

Pilate admitted Jesus was Truth.  He admitted He was innocent.  He admitted He was just.  He admitted there was no fault in Him, but Pilate didn’t hear His voice of Truth.  Jesus told Pilate “Every one that is of Truth heareth My voice.”  And when Pilate had the power of his prominent office, he condemned righteousness, justice and Truth.  He condemned Jesus to a blood thirsty mob.  For fear of losing popularity and favor, he sold out rather than Defend Truth.

And before we pat ourselves on the back, do we sell out ourselves when we don’t stand for Truth in the face of opposition, whether family or friends?  Are we too afraid of not being popular with the world when Truth is attacked?  Do we walk away when “things” become a bit uncomfortable for us, as in the case of Pilate?

What more does one need to be convinced of this Man’s innocence?  Pilate heard Him.  He faced Truth. He asked questions of Truth.  Pilate believed he could wash his hands of Truth.  No one, not even the most powerful forces on earth can wash their hands of Truth.  Truth demands to be faced whether we want to or not.  Pilate had it all wrong.  Pilate was guilty.  The mob was guilty.  Caiaphas and Herod were guilty.  Mankind was guilty.  Jesus was the Innocent One.

“Don’t fight Truth.  You can’t win.  What sometimes is judged victory is premature.  Truth won’t fall dead in the streets; what appears to be its corpse is only its pounded form dragged into an alley; but look – there it comes again, as straight and strong and unconquerable as ever.  No need to try to bury it, for it has inherent resurrection powers and shall rise again.

Of course, Truth is harsh.  And sometimes it goes a-begging; but when beggars beg no more, it shall still be handing out its favors.  So, line up with Truth for Truth’s sake.  And for your sake!  It’s a winner.”        ~ Leroy Brownlow

“Truth is absolute.  Believe that.  Even when that Truth is hard and cold, and more painful than you’ve ever imagined.  And even when Truth is more cruel than any lie.”
~ Scott
