So we are no longer to be children, tossed back and forth by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of people who craftily carry out their deceitful schemes. Ephesians 4.15
Little children are in a stage of learning. One day their favorite food might be macaroni and cheese. The next day, it is creamed potatoes. That may be true in every aspect of their little lives. They are in a growing process to find out what they like and dislike. The responsibility of parents, in part, is to help with this process by exposing them to new things and teaching them the truth based upon what the Bible teaches.
In the body of Christ, every individual has been given something to do. Even though there are different abilities that, when practiced, are more visible, it does not mean that they are more important. Every Christian has the responsibility to grow. Teachers are to equip the saints for the work of building up the body of Christ. Paul wrote that there is a unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God – maturity. This should be the goal for which each person strives.
Mature adults do not act as little children. They practice the truth in love. They have studied the scriptures and are able to give a reason for the hope that they have, 1 Peter 3.15. They are willing to go and teach others, Matthew 28.19-20. They continue to grow into the image of Christ, Ephesians 4.15. With each one doing their part to grow, the body will grow in love.
Do you act as a child, being tossed to and fro? Or are you growing in unity of faith and knowledge practicing the truth in love?
