Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

The Straw that Broke the Camel’s Back
Randy Cohen writes:

At what point did the straw break the camel’s back? In his Treatise on One-Humped Camels in Health and in Disease, A. S. Leese reports that camels can generally carry from 240 up to 1200 pounds–which only “the very best animals” can manage. The record for camel capacity in Australia is 1904 pounds.

Next week you’re bound to have something happen to you that will be the last straw–the one that “breaks the camel’s back.”

It may be the contemptuous look of a spouse that you’ve been desperately trying to win to Jesus.

Perhaps it will be that neighbor whose children play the music too loud and too late at night.

Or, an employer puts one too many tasks before you, with no direction on how to accomplish the job, threatens to send you over the edge.

Maybe, though, it’s the co-worker who takes all the credit for your work and then gets that promotion you’ve been wanting.

It could be an unruly child whose poor decisions and tragic lifestyle is the last straw for you.

Whatever it is, someway and somehow your buttons are going to be pushed and that one final straw is going to “break the camel’s back.” Or, will it?

When the challenges of the week overwhelm you, keep Paul’s words close to your heart:

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

I hope you have a marvelous day!
