If you need an emergency sermon…

This is about as simple as it gets.  Prior to this lesson you might ask the song leader to sing, “There’s a Great Day Coming.”

1)      If you have turned to Mt. 3, let’s read verses 7-12– READ

a)      The hymn found on page 361 of our books talks about this day and makes three basic points.

b)      There is a GREAT day coming.

c)      This great day will be a BRIGHT day.

d)     This great and bright day will also be a SAD day.

 2)      First, the day Jesus returns to judge the world will be a GREAT day  for several reasons.

3)      It will be GREAT because of who is there.

a)      2 Cor. 5:10 says ALL will be at the Day of Judgment.

b)      In life there are situations where some people cannot attend something.

4)      Not only does everyone come, all show up “on time.”  Jn. 5:28-29 says all the dead are going to be raised up when the Lord returns.

5)      When the Bible says “all” will be there, it is not overstating what is going to take place.

6)      Mt. 12:42 – READ

a)      The Queen of Sheba will be present on the Day of Judgment.

b)      This queen will not be alone.  Every earthly ruler – from the first to the last – will be present.

c)      Mt. 16:27.

7)      Consider the promise that “every man” will be “rewarded according to his works.”

8)      The GREATNESS of this day will also be seen in the fact that its time is unknown.

9)      In Mt. 24:36 Jesus said we “cannot know the day or hour” of His return.

WHEN OUR HYMN SPEAKS ABOUT THE DAY OF JUDGMENT BEING “GREAT” THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.  OUR SONG ALSO SPEAKS OF THIS DAY BEING “BRIGHT” AND THIS STATEMENT IS ALSO RIGHT.

a)      Part of the “brightness” will be the Jesus’ appearance.

b)      Jesus 2 Thess. 1:7.

2)      The brightness at the end of time will also apparently come from the earth.

3)      2 Pet. 3:10 speaks of the earth and the “works therein being burned up with fervent heat.”

4)      Mt. 13:43 – READ

5)      Almost everything we know to exist in life loses its luster.

6)      Rom. 2:10.

THERE IS A GREAT AND BRIGHT DAY COMING.  BUT THIS BRIGHTNESS AND GLORY  WILL ALSO BE ACCOMPANIED BY MUCH SADNESS.

a)      The end of time will be sad because many will have to tell God “goodbye.”

2)      Mt. 7:22-12 – READ

3)      Mt. 8:29 – READ

4)      The demons have some knowledge of what life beyond this earth is like.

5)      When sing a SAD day is coming, but we could add a line that says a BAD day is coming.

6)      When people hear “depart from me,” this is going to be the worst day of their life.”

7)      The good news is we do not have to suffer with the demons.

8)      We can be “ready” for the Lord to return whether His return is today or sometime later.
