Concept of time

Yes, in your eyes a thousand years are like yesterday that quickly passes, or like one of the divisions of the nighttime. Psalms 90.4

Do you remember when you were a child? It seemed like birthdays took so long to arrive. Christmas would never arrive! You could not wait for the end of the school year and for summer. Then, it seemed like forever until the next school year started and you were reunited with your friends.

Humans have a very definitive concept of time: you are born; you live; you die. Consequently, applying your concept to God, thinking that it is an apt application, leaves one baffled and struggling for understanding why things may take so long.

Moses wrote in Psalm 90.2 that God existed before the mountains or the world came into being. His concept of time is very different from our own. In truth, God is not bound by the same time restraints that humans have.

Peter reminded his readers in 2 Peter 3.8 that for the Lord, a single day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a single day. To us, it may seem like it is taking forever for our prayers to be answered or for Jesus to return. But, to the Lord, that is not the case. He is being patient, wanting all to come to repentance and obedience to Him.

Let us make the most of the time we have to serve Him faithfully!
