Death is not a pleasant subject, but we all will make the appointment

This morning while talking to the funeral home about unfinished business, odds and ends of a life which has now departed, I came across a lesson, probably more designed for me than anyone, but I thought it may help others as well.  My thoughts are scattered at the moment, and I suppose most people’s thoughts do scatter when you come face to face with reality and how things really are.  My mother-in-law was not a Christian……and that says it all, and my heart has grieved for that which was never accepted.  Her fate is sealed.  No more invitations to learn the Truth.  No more life on this earth.

Death is not a pleasant subject, but we all will make the appointment.  However, for the faithful child of God, there is a place of honor, comfort and rest from our trials and tribulations that vex us so in this life.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.”    Psalm 116:15

One who is not a Christian has not that hope.

“For in death there is no remembrance of Thee:  in the grave who shall give Thee thanks?”     Psalms 6:5.

“Dear Lord,

Please grant that I shall never waste my pain for;

To fail without learning,

To fall without getting up,

To sin without overcoming,

To be hurt without forgiving,

To be discontent without improving,

To be crushed without becoming more caring,

To suffer without growing more sensitive,

Make of suffering a senseless, futile exercise,

A tragic loss, and of pain,

The greatest waste of all.”   ~ Unknown

“I have wandered through that orchard and played among her trees

But I’ve never heard the secrets that she whispers in the breeze

For the only sound on hallowed ground is the silence of the men

Who will never pass this way again.

It never shone as beautiful as how it looks today.

We never miss the things we love, til they go away. . . . ”    ~ Unknown

“The certainty of the proposition, “I shall not pass again this way” dictates to us that whatever we intend to do we need to get busy and do it now.  Too much time has already been lost; therefore, it is incumbent upon us to fully use the fleeting moments that are left.

Our little day passes so quickly.  The shadow we cast lengthens so fast until it gradually fades into night.  “I go whence I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death” – Job 10:21.  The day is passing – so grab the light and race with the sun to accomplish your purpose.”    ~ Leroy Brownlow
