Peace

I see it every day.  I’m sure you do as well.  People searching for peace of mind.  I’ve heard many times people say they will be pleased when they finish school and get that high paying job or how they will spend their retirement, and they will be content.  Then others believe getting a new house, new car or a trip will give them satisfaction.  But these things are fleeting.  No material “thing” can make us content.  And then there are others who will seek pleasure in drinking, drugs, empty relationships, and never find peace.  A successful and peaceful life will not be found in the pursuit of things for it isn’t in these pursuits.  And so they continue searching many wrong avenues hoping to find a lasting peace.  Something which isn’t so elusive, fleeting and temporal and satisfies the soul.

“And the peace which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”     Philippians 4:7

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you:  not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”     John 14:27

“Now the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always by all means.  The Lord be with you all.”     II Thessalonians 3:16

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”    John 16:33

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee:  because he trusteth in Thee.”     Isaiah 26:3

“Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.”       I Peter 5:7

Contentment and peace can only be found in Him.  When we become a Christian, our sins are washed away.  We become one of His children.  We can then walk in full assurance, knowing if we are faithful to Him we will spend eternity with Him.  This is the peace Christianity brings to our lives when we are His children.  And it isn’t a life which is free from all trouble.  We will have trials and set-backs, but it is peace of mind to the Christian who knows no matter what happens in this life, He is touched by our infirmities and listens to us when we pray, giving us comfort all along the way.

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;  but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”    Hebrews 4:15

“God nowhere tells us to give up things for the sake of giving them up.  He tells us to give them up for the sake of the only thing worth having, a life with Him.  It is a question of loosening the bonds that hinder the life.”       ~ Oswald Chambers

“That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.”      Colossians 2:2

“A day spent in the courts of God will do more to bring peace and satisfaction to the soul than a thousand days spent in worldly indulgence, social-mixing, honor-looking, self-seeking and money-chasing combined.

When we start reviewing the past, we find that those days spent seeking pleasures were rather empty and disappointing.  The satisfactions we sought were always over yonder, and when we go there they were still over yonder.  They were the fleeing mirages that kept ahead of us.

We find peace in a relationship – not in seeking it.  The communion of our spirit with the Great Spirit, believing in Him, hoping in Him, brings a special delight not experienced in common pastimes.”          ~ Leroy Brownlow

“Sometimes God calms the storm……sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child.”      ~ Unknown
