WHERE IS YOUR CONFIDENCE?

God has blessed so many with various talents. With study and/or training some perfect those talents.

Whether one is an artist, a musician, a builder, a banker, a teacher, an athlete, etc. they are ready to meet the challenges of life in their individual fields. Why? Because of their experience and knowledge, they are confident.

We all may have areas of expertise in which we are confident. But, how confident are we when religious matters arise?

Recently we met a man who was doing a yard project for us. He was one of those who knew a little bit about everything. I don’t care what subject came up he imparted…and imparted…and imparted information to us. But, when the subject of religion came up he developed lockjaw. Seriously, he didn’t have a word to say!

Obviously he wasn’t too knowledgeable in spiritual matters. And, I truly believe the vast majority of those with whom we ask to study the scriptures have the same problem. They don’t know enough about their own religious beliefs to be able to discuss them, thus they lack the confidence to participate in a study.

What about us? Are we any different? We should be so excited about sharing God’s simple plan of salvation and be able to tell others about the church of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matt. 16:18; Acts 2:41, 47).

Do we realize we are not fully obeying God if we lack this knowledge? We are told to give an answer/defense to all who ask about the hope that is in us with meekness and fear (I Pet. 3:15). And, we are told to grow in grace and knowledge (II Pet. 3:18).

I hope today that we are able to meet our peers with confidence because we do have a good knowledge of the scriptures. I hope we are willing to share the greatest message every given. For, you see, that is our whole purpose for being on this earth (Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15).

Where does your confidence lie?
